Microsoft Excel – Shortcuts for Absolute Cell Referencing

Many people type in the $ signs when trying to create an absolute cell reference in Excel. However, you can do the same thing using the F4 function key on your keyboard.
To quickly make an Excel cell reference absolute ( a fixed cell)
• Enter the cell reference in a formula and press the F4 key to make the whole reference absolute. (eg $B$4)
• Enter the cell reference in a formula and press the F4 key twice to make just the row absolute. (eg B$4)
• Enter the cell reference in a formula and press the F4 key 3 times to make just the column absolute. (eg $B4)
• Enter the cell reference in a formula and press the F4 key 4 times to remove all absolute references from the cell. (eg B4)
