Microsoft Word – inserting a row above a table

Have you ever created a Word table at the top of a document and then wondered how you can put some text above it? It isn’t easy to insert a line above it.

To add a line above a table:

  1. Click into the first cell of the table.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter.

To split a table:

  1. Click into the cell where the table needs to be split.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter.

This splits the table leaving a line for text to be entered between the tables.
